A panel of representatives from Gujarat’s school boards has recommended a dress code for primary teachers, which they say would “make a good impression” among the students.

The body, which is comprised by chairpersons of school boards from five districts, has made suggestions to reform the primary education sector, including prescribing a uniform for teachers.

“Some felt that teachers should wear a uniform to make a good impression. ‘Salwar kameez’ should also be allowed in addition to the sari. Some wanted jeans and T-shirts to be banned for both men and women,” Jagdish Bhavsar, chairman of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation school board, told The Hindu .
