The Gujarat government on Monday reinstated suspended IPS officer P.P. Pandey, who recently got bail in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case.

“The State government has revoked the suspension of P.P. Pandey and is pleased to appoint him on the vacant cadre post of Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order), Gujarat, Gandhinagar,” a government notification said.

Mr. Pandey was the Joint Commissioner of Police when the 2004 encounter took place. He was suspended in August 2013 following his arrest in the case four months after he was proclaimed an absconder. He was holding the rank of ADGP at the time.
