The Gujarat High Court has won the ‘8th India Tech Excellence Award’ for applying Information Technology (IT) in administration as part of e-governance.

“The Gujarat High Court has received the India-Tech Excellence Award for its information and communication initiative in the state judiciary system,” Registrar of the High Court, P P Bhatt told reporters here on Thursday.

“The India Tech Foundation (ITF), which instituted the award, had invited nomination for most progressive state government in three categories that is application of IT in administration, power sector reforms and initiatives in development of urban and rural infrastructure,” he said.

“We were nominated in the category of application of IT in administration,” he added.

Mr. Bhatt also said that the award would be presented at a ceremony which is scheduled to be held in November this year.

The High Court had computerised records at state level and district courts. It had provided online legal access by setting up e-courts and websites for district courts. It had also introduced short messaging service(SMS) for getting the legal status of a particular case among other initiatives.

The initiatives to be introduced now will also include training of officials so that they may get used to the new technology, he added.
