Although security measures have been beefed up in preparation for the Lok sabha polls on April 17 suspected rebels could penetrate the Imphal town on Friday night.

They lobbed a China made hand grenade at the showroom of M/S Eastern Motors in the heart of the Imphal town. Some parts of the show room were pock marked. However there was no casualty since the business centre was closed.

This business centre does business only when there are armed policemen inside the show room. There had been several bomb attacks in the past.

There is no claim from any underground organisation. The management is not making any comment. However police fear that some rebels might have lobbed the grenade as the management refused to pay illegal tax.

On Saturday morning one bomb was detected at Pallel in Thoubal district. Bomb disposal experts from Imphal rushed there to defuse it.

Meanwhile there was panic among the members of the public at Wapokpi in Thoubal district when one bottle wrapped in a plastic paper was sighted near the drainage. People thought it was a bomb meant to attack the security personnel.
