Inbound tourism mart, The Great Indian Travel Bazaar (GITB) will return to Jaipur after a gap of one year.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to this effect was signed between the Director of Tourism (DOT), Vikram Singh and FICCI, Assistant Secretary General, Arun Chawla last week.
As per the MOU, the GITB will be organized jointly by FICCI and the DOT for the next five years – beginning 2015 to 2019 in April. As in the past it will be actively supported by the Union Tourism Ministry, Indian Heritage Hotel Association (IHHA), Hotel & Restaurant Association of Rajasthan (HRAR) and Rajasthan Association of Tour Operators (RATO).
It is to be recalled that GITB, which began in the year 2008, became an increasingly popular inbound tourism mart in the country. A large number of tour operators, travel agents, travel writers visited Jaipur for the event.
According to general secretary of IHHA, Randhir Vikram Singh Mandawa the GITB had established itself as the most important travel mart in north India in the six years. It had become especially important for small and standalone hotels of Rajasthan, which cannot afford to attend international travel marts.
The five year contract for GITB from 2008 to 2013, incidentally, was not renewed and hence could not be held in Jaipur in 2014.
