The Food and Civil Supplies department raided a godown of the Central Warehousing Corporation here and seized 49,165 quintals of pulses and grains worth Rs 14.20 crores, the official sources said on Thursday.
The godown in Wardhman Nagar was raided late on Wednesday evening by a team of officials led by senior officer Ramesh Ade, they said.
“Huge stocks of eight commodities particularly gram, tur, udad and lakhodi pulses and soyabean belonging to 79 traders from various parts of Vidarbha were illegally stored without valid documentation here,” the Food Distribution Officer (FDO), Ramesh Mawaskar, said.
The raid was conducted as a part of drive undertaken against black marketeers and hoarders of food grains, sources said.
Mr. Mawaskar said that action under the Essential Commodities Act (ECA) will be taken against the illegal hoarders.
