Gogoi supports Hazare's anti-land ordinance agitation

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday announced that his government fully supported social activist Anna Hazare in his fight against the land acquisition ordinance.

In a statement issued in Guwahati, Mr. Gogoi stated: "Our Government stood against antipeople and anti-farmers’ policies. The Land Acquisition Ordinance is antipeople and antifarmers’ and meant to serve only the interests of the rich, affluent and industrialists. We are dead against such a policy and not going to implement it. Our Government expresses its strong opposition to the ordinance and extends full support to social activist Anna Hazare in his crusade against it.”

The Chief Minister also stated that he had attended the swearingin ceremony of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to express his solidarity with alllike minded secular and progressive parties in their fight against divisive forces and lend support for propoor policies.

Meanwhile, the PCC president Anjan Dutta told journalists at a press conference that the ruling Congress had not discussed any plan at the ongoing threeday round table of Assam Congress leaders on the issue forging an electoral alliance with the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) or any other party for 2016 assembly polls. He was reacting to statements made by some party leaders opposing an electoral alliance with the AIUDF after Mr Gogoi had reportedly said that his party was open to forging alliance with any nonBJP party, when journalists asked him if the Congress would forge a tieup with the AIUDF.

Mr Dutta clarified that the round table discussion was confined only to the proposed amendments to party’s constitution on some organisational matters.
