Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday requested Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to deploy more companies of Central paramilitary forces in trouble-torn Uriamghat area under Dhansiri sub-division of upper Assam’s Golaghat district along the disputed boundary between Assam and Nagaland.

Mr. Gogoi’s plea came after the influx of 10,000-odd people, who had fled their houses in five villages in the area following attacks by armed miscreants, Nagaland on Tuesday who took shelter in 10 relief camps.

The Assam government informed the State Assembly that the miscreants opened fire indiscriminately in which one person was killed and three were injured. Eight relief camps have been opened in Uriamghat to provide shelter to those affected.

Assam Home Commissioner G.D. Tripathi, who was also directed to visit the affected areas, told The Hindu that situation was “under control.”
