A Godhra train carnage convict, Shaukat Abdullah Ismail “Badam,” who jumped bail, has been re-arrested by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch Police here.

Badam, who had been serving life imprisonment in the Baroda Central jail for his role in the 2002 conspiracy, was granted bail by the Gujarat High Court to attend his daughter's marriage. But he went missing afterwards.

On Tuesday, the police, on prior information, kept a watch and picked him up near the Gita Mandir Road State Transport bus station. After investigation, he would be send back to the jail, the police said.

Meanwhile, Aftab Ansari, an accused in the January 2001 arms landing case in Radhanpur in Banaskantha district, was produced before the special CBI court here.

Ansari, who had allegedly been in the custody of the Kolkata police for the past few years, was brought here in connection with the Radhanpur case being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation. The next hearing has been fixed for March 6.
