Goa Directorate of Mines and Geology will conduct its second e-auction of the stacked iron ore on Wednesday.
The auction will be held for 12 lakh tonnes of ore. In the first e-auction, the Department had earlier auctioned 5.1 lakh tonnes of ore.
After the Supreme Court recently allowed a relaxation in its earlier mining ban order by allowing the State Mines to conduct e-auction of ore extracted prior to ban under a monitoring committee set up by the Court, the Goa Mines Department began the e-auction of ore lying on jetties and at the Mormugao port. Now it plans to also e-auction ore stacked at mining sites.
The Department has estimated that around 15 million tonnes of ore would be e-auctioned in the present process under the supervision of the monitoring Committee, said Director of Mines Prasanna Acharya.
Mining is banned in Goa by an interim order of the Supreme Court issued in a public interest litigation in October 2012, which sought action on illegal mining in the State. Goa is the only State which has private sector mining and exports.
