The Goa police crime records reveal that the Nigerian national, arrested on on charges of for raping a 31-year-old woman in north coastal Goa last week, had been booked in couple of criminal cases in recent past.
A senior police official in north Goa said that the accused was in the recent past booked for rioting, assault and illegally over-staying in India.
Kenneth Upwegdha (41) was arrested at Panvel Railway station near Mumbai on Monday by Maharashtra-Goa police and was on Tuesday remanded in police custody for three days by JMFC court in Mapusa.
Kenneth was arrested for rioting and blocking the National Highway in Goa in 2013, a case against over 50 of Nigerians for rioting at Porvorim on NH 17 highway protesting police apathy in probe of a fellow-Niregian who was allegedly stabbed in north coastal Goa by some locals. He was booked by the Calangute police in 2012 for illegally overstaying beyond his stipulated visa duration, police sources said.
Kenneth, along with another accomplice, has been accused of allegedly kidnapping and raping a woman at knife-point on Saturday.
