The Mapusa police in north Goa on Wednesday evening arrested two suspects in an acid attack case. A 16-year-old girl and her grandmother were injured in an acid attack allegedly by an unidentified persons in Mapusa on Wednesday morning.
North Goa Superintendent of Police Umesh Gaonkar on Wednesday evening told The Hindu that two of the neighbours have been arrested as suspects.
Sources in the police, however, indicated that the case could be a much complicated one as the father of the victim is a goldsmith whose daily work in his workshop inside the house involves handling of acid.
The girl and her grandmother were asleep inside their home when an unknown person threw acid through the window, Mr. Gaonkar said. Both of them sustained burn injuries and were rushed to district hospital in Mapusa.
"We are going by the complaint. We will seek remand for the suspects on Thursday. The suspects will be interrogated to find out the truth,” said Mr. Gaonkar.
The victims live in Guirim, a village located near Mapusa city.
