In a move that could have a critical bearing on the future of political developments in the Darjeeling hills, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) leadership on Monday said that it had received a call from the Ministry of Home Affairs for tripartite talks on outstanding issues related to the region on October 23.
“I am happy to get a call from the Central government for tripartite talks,” GJM president Bimal Gurung said in Darjeeling.
The GJM, which has been demanding the holding of tripartite talks ever since launching a fresh phase of agitation in support of its demand for Gorkhaland late in July, had set the talks as a condition for calling off the stir when requested to do so by the Centre.
