Girl says she too was gang-raped at Shakti Mills

Two weeks after the Shakti Mills’ gang rape of a photojournalist, an 18-year-old has came forward to register a police complaint alleging that she too was gang-raped by five men, including three of the arrested accused, at that very location, just three weeks earlier.

One man has been detained by the police so far.

Details of the victim’s statement bear a chilling similarity to the gang rape of the photojournalist on August 22. The accused allegedly followed the same modus operandi.

The girl told the police she went to the mills with her boyfriend on July 31. While inside, around 7.30 p.m., they were intercepted by three men.

First they were accused of trespassing. Then the young man was beaten up and tied up with a belt and a ‘dupatta.’ The girl was then raped by three men. Then the accused called two other friends, who also raped her. The couple was later released and threatened with dire consequences if they revealed what had happened, her complaint said.

Fled to Chhattisgarh

The couple was so scared after the incident that they did not inform their families and the police. Instead, they fled to Chhattisgarh, where the young man had a few acquaintances.

When the girl failed to return home that night, her family lodged a missing persons complaint in the Bhandup Police station.

The police could not locate her for over a month. She finally returned to Mumbai with her boyfriend two days ago and informed her family, who made her lodge a complaint at the Bhandup police station.

She was taken to the N.M. Joshi police station, which handled the earlier case and shown photographs of the accused. She identified three of the five accused who were part of the crime, the police said.

Two others at large

The police are on lookout for two other accused. “The other two accused also seem to be from the same area,” the police said.
