Rajasthan government on Sunday said it was committed to development and welfare of farmers and asked them to play an active role in getting benefits from new technologies and latest inventions in the agriculture field.

Addressing farmers who came from across the State to take part in farmers’ felicitation function here, Chief Minister Gehlot said that new inventions are taking place in the agriculture sector today and farmers should make efforts to get benefits from these technologies and inventions.

Mr. Gehlot said the Union government by focusing on farmers has increased minimum support price of their crops to get them reasonable price and waived off loans of farmers to the tune of 72,000 crore as their welfare was in the priority of the State government as well.

“The State government’s efforts will be to strengthen the basic infrastructure for agriculture sectors in order to give benefit to farmers. We have made provision of weather based crop insurance in the State budget 2010-11 which would also be of good benefit for farmers,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that the State government was planning to draft master plan for rural areas which will be focused on farmers’ facilities for next 25 years.

He also expressed serious concern for water crisis in the State and said farmers should use water management technologies.
