Hurriyat Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s younger son Naseem Geelani has written a letter to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) asking it to “send him notice through the varsity administration” for his personal appearance.
“I have no objection to attend the NIA office in New Delhi but kindly serve notice through Vice-Chancellor, Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Agriculture Science [SKUAST]. I can only be permitted to leave,” reads Mr. Geelani’s letter addressed to the NIA, Superintendent of Police, Vishal Garg.
The NIA has served notice on Mr. Geelani, who works as an assistant professor at the faculty of forestry in SKUAST, in a “disproportionate assets case.” In a reply to the NIA, Naseem has denied possessing any property in terms of land and houses as mentioned by the agency.
“At the time of receiving NIA notice, I have less than ₹500 as my bank balance, while loan liability is of ₹18.8 lakh,” he said. He said his only fault was “being the son of the Hurriyat Chairman.” The Hurriyat chairman’s elder son Naeem Geelani, a cardiologist, has already been questioned by the NIA.
