Victims and survivors of the Bhopal gas tragedy will be sitting on an indefinite dharna from Tuesday demanding correction in figures of deaths and injuries, in the soon-to-be-heard curative petition in the Supreme Court.
Leaders of five survivor organisations said the State government was yet to make the corrections as promised by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan following the “rail roko” agitation held on December 3.
“So far the only assurance we have received is that officials concerned will be meeting the Additional Solicitor-General of Madhya Pradesh on January 6 to discuss changes in figures of damage caused by the disaster. Our dharna will continue till the figures in the curative petition are corrected,” said Rashida Bi, one of the victims.
The organisations will also be demanding dropping of false criminal charges against innocent gas victims, and an independent and impartial investigation as promised by the Chief Minister in the wake of the violence during the December 3 agitation.
