Gangetic River Dolphin mascot of Guwahati

Assam Governor P. B. Acharya on Thursday congratulated the Kamrup Metropolitan district administration on taking the initiative to declare the Gangetic River Dolphin as the mascot for the State capital.

“Congratulations to Deputy Commissioner and his team for taking all interests for declaring the Gangetic River Dolphin as the City Animal as its mascot”, Mr. Acharya said in a statement on Thursday. The move will help in generating awareness for this protected creature which is on the verge of extinction, he added.

Guwahati has become the first city in the country to have its City Animal. - PTI
