The survivor of the brutal Shakti Mills gang rape, which triggered outrage across the country, was discharged from hospital on Wednesday night even as her family appealed to the media and public to respect their privacy and keep away from their home.

Police on Wednesday morning took all five accused to the mill compound to reconstruct the sequence of events that led to the crime.

“This is important to present a watertight case in the court,” said Himanshu Roy, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime).

Following reports claiming that one of the accused, Chand Sheikh, is a minor, the police will conduct a bone ossification test on all the five to verify their age. Chand’s grandmother and certain media reports had claimed that he was a minor. The birth certificate available with the family showed his year of birth as 1997. According to police, he was once arrested in 2011 and his age was then recorded as 17. The test will be conducted at the Nagpada police hospital on Thursday and results are expected in the next three days.
