: The Delhi Police have arrested a gang from Bangladesh that would allegedly rob people on the pretext of selling them dollars.

The three accused, aged between 27 and 48, would first offer to sell dollars in exchange of Indian rupees and when the victims would approach with them, they would rob them of the money, said the police.

Complaint lodged

One such victim, Kanhaiya Sharma from Noida, approached the police on September 21.

“Immediately, a team led by Inspector Pawan Kumar launched an investigation. After zeroing in on the location of the gang, the team laid a trap,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Rishi Pal.

He added that during interrogation, the accused — Ujjal, Mohd. Farook and Salma — admitted to their involvement in the incident.

Laying a trap

“They said that on September 19 they targeted the complainant by giving him a dollar note and asking him if he was interested in having more. When the complainant agreed, they fixed a deal to exchange the currency somewhere in Geeta Colony,” said the DCP.

When the complainant reached the spot, the gang ran away with his money without exchanging the currency.

The gang leader, Tultul, is absconding, said the police.
