Fresh snowfall in Valley

Most parts of Kashmir Valley, including summer capital Srinagar, experienced fresh snowfall on Sunday, with the maximum temperature settling at 3.4 degrees Celsius, Met department said.

The department has predicted heavy rain or snowfall at some places in Jammu and Kashmir over the next 24 hours.

Reports of snowfall were also received from the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg and Pahalgam and other places in the higher reaches of the Valley, it said.

The department, however, added that there would be improvement in the weather from Tuesday onwards.

Shimla: Several areas of Himachal, including State capital Shimla, were lashed by hailstorm followed by intermittent rain while higher hills had another spell of moderate snowfall, causing sharp fall in mercury.

Avalanche threat loomed large over tribal areas and higher reaches in Chamba district and four houses were reportedly damaged in avalanche in remote Bara Bhangal area in Kangra district while a wooden house was burnt in lightning in village Bandal Surakh in Sirmaur district.

The higher reaches and tribal areas had another spell of fresh snowfall while mid and lower hills were lashed by high velocity icy winds accompanied by intermittent rain and hail.

The local MeT office has predicted heavy rain, snow and hailstorm at isolated places in the state on Monday and another spell of snow and rain from March 12 onwards.-PTI
