With the high altitude areas of Kashmir experiencing snowfall for the second consecutive day today, authorities here issued a fresh “medium danger” avalanche warning covering the snow-bound areas above the height of 6,500 feet in the Valley.

“On the basis of reports from SASE, a medium danger avalanche warning has been issued for higher reaches of snow bound areas along the Line of Control (LoC), central and south Kashmir,” Coordinator, Divisional Disaster Management Authority, Aamir Ali said.

He said the areas included Chowkibal, Tangdhar, Machhil, Keran, Gurez and Uri along the LoC, Zojila, Sonamarg and Drass on Srinagar-Leh National highway, and higher reaches of Baramulla in north, and Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam districts of south Kashmir.

The people living in these areas above the height of 6,500 feet have been advised not to venture in steep and avalanche prone areas and to avoid movement during snowfall, Mr. Ali said, adding the avalanche warning is valid for the next 24 hours.
