A special court today fixed August 2 as the next date of hearing in the Babri Mosque demolition case when charges will be framed against remaining 23 out of the total 49 accused.

Special ADJ (Ayodhya Prakran) Vireendra Kumar directed all of them, including the then Faizabad district magistrate and some Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, to appear before it then.

Nine of the accused were present before the court on Tuesday and exemption applications were moved on behalf of 10 others as they could not present before the court. Four other accused were absent, CBI counsel K.P. Singh told PTI .

The accused are facing charges of criminal conspiracy behind the December 6, 1992 demolition of the 16th century mosque.

Earlier, the Allahabad High Court had dismissed a revision petition by the CBI for prosecution of senior BJP leader L.K. Advani and seven other party leaders against whom a trial court in Rae Bareli had dropped the criminal charges.
