Four suspected members of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) were killed in a joint anti-Maoist operation by Chhattisgarh police and the Central Reserve Police Force in Maoist insurgency-hit Bastar region of Chhattisgarh on Saturday.
“Combined forces of the District Reserve Guard, District police, the Special Task Force, the CRPF and the CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) had been on a long range patrol in Bijapur district since Thursday. At around 1.30 pm today, a fierce encounter took place between the forces and the Maoists of Pamed Area Committee (of CPI Maoist) near Tumrel village under Pamed police station limits in Bijapur. Four dead bodies of male Maoists in Maoist uniform have been recovered from the spot of the encounter ,” Mr.S.R.P. Kalluri, the Inspector General (IG) of Police (Bastar range) said in a statement.
The IG also informed that Usoor Local Operating Squad of the Maoists was also present at the spot of the encounter.
The security forces managed to recover pipe bombs and some country made guns from the deceased Maoists.
“The operation is still on and more forces are being dispatched to cordon off the area. More details cannot be shared for security reasons,” added Mr.Kalluri.
