Incessant monsoon rains for the past four days have thrown normal life out of gear and has created a flood-like situation in several areas of Tripura. At least four hundred people are marooned in West Tripura with weather forecast predicting more shower in the days ahead.

Traffic was also regularly disrupted in the capital due to water logging in the streets. Incessant rains have flooded slum areas in Agartala and villages in Khayerpur east of Agartala, parts of Bishalgarh and Sonamura in Seepahijala district apart from Khowai.

The district administrations have provided many flood driven people temporary shelter in local school buildings. State’s relief and rehabilitation department has been providing relief to displaced people.

Officials said some rivers are flowing above the danger mark and water submerged low lying areas on river banks. NDMA unit, fire service, civil defence and security forces have been put on alert for their deployment an emergency situation.

Despite heavy rainfall, no incident of mudslide has been reported from hills and traffic remains normal on national highways. Met office reported 36mm rains in Agartala over past 24 hours.
