Former Arunachal speaker dies

Former Arunachal Pradesh legislative assembly speaker and cabinet minister Setong Sena died at a private hospital in Assam’s Dibrugarh district after suffering from hepatitis, family sources said.

He was 54 and is survived by wife, one son and two daughters.

Mr. Sena was undergoing treatment at Aditya Hospital in Dibrugarh for the last couple of days. He died around 11 pm on Sunday, family members said.

A four-time MLA from Nampong constituency in Changlang district, Mr. Sena was defeated by his Personal Assistant Laisam Simai from BJP in the last year’s assembly election.

He held many important portfolios such as finance, power (electrical), environment, horticulture & agriculture.

He was also the speaker for one full term.

He served as ministers under various chief ministers including Gegong Apang, Mukut Mithi, Dorjee Khandu, Jarbom Gamlin and Nabam Tuki.

Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma and Chief Minister Nabam Tuki mourned his sudden death and extended condolences to the bereaved family members.

His last rites would be performed at Jairampur, his native place on Tuesday.
