A 27-year-old foreigner, believed to be Spanish, was raped and robbed in the city’s upscale Perry Cross Road in Bandra area here early morning on Monday. She was alone in her rented apartment.

Senior police officials refused to confirm the nationality of the victim or give details about her, but confirmed that she was raped at her residence between 3.15 and 3.45 a.m.

Friend was away

“She shared the apartment with another woman foreigner friend, who was not in town at that time. She has been staying in the city for the past five-six months. She does not want any details about herself to be revealed, so we cannot give any further information,” Additional Commissioner of Police (western region) Vishwas Nangre-Patil told The Hindu.

The accused also robbed her off items worth Rs. 35,000, he added.

According to the police, the accused entered the victim’s house through an open window.

“Unfortunately, hers was the only house which did not have a grille and the window was open. The accused, after committing robbery at two places, entered this house,” Mr. Nangre-Patil said.

He said the victim managed to run out of the house and ring the neighbours’ bell.

“The neighbours were not in the house. She could not run downstairs. Later, she locked herself in the bathroom and shouted for help. The neighbours from the upper floor immediately called the police. The police team rescued the victim by breaking open the bathroom door,” he said.
