Floor leaders to watch video footage

March 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - HYDERABAD:

A committee of the floor leaders of all parties in the Telangana Legislative Assembly will watch the video footage of the “noisy scenes” witnessed during Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan’s address to the joint session of the Legislature on Saturday to fix the responsibility for the “unsavoury incidents” -- including the disrespect shown by some members to the national anthem.

The decision was taken at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting of the Assembly held after the Governor’s address.

Sources stated that ruling TRS was opposed to the idea and it was in favour of Speaker watching the footage himself and taking a decision. However, it has agreed for the demand put forward by all Opposition parties except MIM.

The MIM was understood to have demanded suspension of the members who had shown disrespect to the national anthem by standing on the benches (seats) while it was being played after the Governor’s address before forming any committee.

The party was stated to have decided not to be part of any panel on the issue before action was initiated against those who had disrespected the national anthem.
