Flash floods in Bihar, lakhs affected

Around five lakh people have been affected by flash floods caused by incessant rains in five districts of Bihar, officials said.

Flash floods due to torrential rains since Wednesday inundated scores of villages in Gaya, Aurangabad, Nawada, Nalanda and Jehanabad districts, they said.

Falgu and Morhar rivers are flowing above danger level, the officials said.

“Close watch is being maintained to protect the embankments of the swollen rivers,” Magadh divisional commission Sanjeev Kumar Sinha said.

According to State disaster management department officials, around 1.5 million people are reeling under the impact of floods that have so far claimed 51 lives in the State
