Five killed as jeep plunges into Sutlej

Five people, including two brothers, died on the spot in the Brow area of Kullu district on Tuesday night when their jeep plunged into the

Sutlej river. The police retrieved three bodies and the vehicle on Wednesday. The vehicle was going from Chatti village to Jagatkhana that lies on the left bank of the Sutlej.

Meanwhile, the Hindustan Tibet National Highway could not be opened at many places for the vehicular traffic for the fourth day on Wednesday. More than 160 link roads in the State are blocked after the incessant rain and snow since Sunday. A big portion of the road near the HPTDC Lift in the main town also got collapsed on Wednesday which resulted in a big traffic jam.

The State BJP has demanded the restoration of helicopter services to the snowbound Kinnaur district. The health services, roads and other communication systems have collapsed in the tribal district, complained Tejwant Negi, a former MLA.
