May 22, 2016 04:22 am | Updated September 12, 2016 07:43 pm IST - Srinagar:

Five militants were killed and an Army jawan was injured in an encounter in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday.

According to a police official, the personnel of the police’s Special Operation Group and the Army’s 47 Rashtriya Rifles cordoned off the Check Drugmulla, around 90 km north of Srinagar, in the morning after a tip-off about militant presence.

An exchange of firing began when the hiding militants responded to warning shots of the security forces and opened fire at the search party. After zeroing in on a residential house in which the militants were hiding, the security forces blasted it. All the militants belonged to the Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit.
