Fire at LIC office in central Kolkata

A fire broke out on the fourth floor of a LIC office in the heart of the metropolis on Saturday causing panic among people in the adjacent area.

There was no injury or casualty.

Local people gave information that smoke was billowing from the fourth floor of the Jeevan Prakash Bhavan at the crossing of Ganesh Chandra Avenue and C R Avenue, police and fire brigade sources said.

Seven fire tenders brought the situation under control in about two hours.

A number of computers and electronic gadgets were destroyed in the fire, the sources said.

The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained. A departmental investigation was on.
