An FIR was on Tuesday registered against Congress MLA Janardhan Chandurkar for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct by trying to influence voters by distributing money in suburban Bandra, police said.

Mr. Chandurkar, three-term MLA, is contesting from Bandra (East) constituency.

“An FIR has been registered against Mr. Chandurkar and we are investigating the matter. We have recovered Rs 15,000 cash from his vehicle when he arrived in Bharat Nagar,” Additional Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta told PTI.

“Chandurkar claimed that the money belonged to his driver and it was not meant for distribution among the voters,” he said.
