An FIR has been registered against Janak Singh in Bihar’s Saran district for allegedly threatening a district official.

Following the complaint filed by Ved Prakash Singh, a district agriculture officer, the police filed a case on Thursday against the MLA under the Indian Penal Code sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 385 (putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion).

The complainant stated that he received a threat to his life and was abused on the phone.

The MLA Mr. Singh denied the charges. He said there were many discrepancies in the appointment of the heads of training committees for farmers. He had called the officer regarding one such matter, but the officer got cross with him and the exchange got heated.

“Will I ask for extortion in a mobile phone conversation,” Mr. Singh told The Hindu .
