The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Jaipur chapter of Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) will jointly organise a State-level sensitisation workshop here on this coming Wednesday to address the issues of sex selection and adverse child sex ratio in Rajasthan and promote gender equality in the society.

According to PRSI secretary Y. K. Sharma here on Saturday, experts addressing the workshop will highlight the issues of sex selection, female foeticide and gender discrimination while trying to devise a strategy to generate awareness about the gravity of the situation and bring about a change.

Mr. Sharma pointed out that the declining sex ratio in the desert State was a cause for concern and said there was an urgent need to stop sex selective abortions which were leading to population imbalances.

Mr. Sharma said the workshop would help the participants get an overall view of the social and technical fabric around sex selection and enable them to map the adverse child sex ratio. Demographers and sociologists will also evolve an appropriate terminology to communicate the message for saving girls on the occasion.
