Army personnel today eliminated one more militant in the gunbattle near the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, taking the number of slain ultras to five.

“One more militant was killed in the fighting at Keran sector. We have recovered the body of the slain militant,” an army spokesman said.

There were no casualties among the security forces, he added.

Earlier, four militants were killed as army troops foiled an infiltration bid near the LoC in Keran sector of the district.

The troops had foiled the infiltration bid by militants from across the Line of Control in Keran sector on Friday.

Over the past three months, militants have stepped up infiltration bids as they try to augment the depleting cadres following the killing of several top commanders of Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad.
