Jharkhand on Friday witnessed a bandh for the fifth time in a week called by a religious organisation Hanuman Mandal to protest against damage to Goddess Chinmastika Idol at Rajrappa last week.

The 12-hour bandh evoked little response across the state except for Ranchi where the police used mild force to disperse bandh supporters who allegedly attempted to attack a two-wheeler, the police said.

About 200 bandh supporters were taken into custody and taken to Jaipal Singh stadium, the police said adding the police were patrolling the streets to prevent any untoward incident.

Educational institutions and business establishments too remained closed in Ranchi.

The idol of Goddess Chinmastika was damaged last week forcing suspension of puja at Rajarappa in Ramgarh, about 40 km from here.
