Ruby Choudhary, accused of staying illegally at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), was sent to 14 days in judicial custody, on Saturday.
Ms. Choudhary was arrested on Friday night on a complaint filed by Satyavir Singh, LBSNAA administrative officer (security), at the Mussoorie police station regarding her illegal stay at the IAS training academy. On Saturday, she was produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate-II Chhavi Bansal. Ms. Choudhary’s lawyer Suyash Kukreti told The Hindu : “She [Ms. Choudhary] has been charged under Sections 420 (cheating), 467 and 468 (forgery), 471 (using forged document), 170 (personating a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).”
“The police had moved an application for police custody remand, to which we raised an objection. The hearing on that issue is scheduled for April 6,” Mr. Kukreti said.
On Thursday, Ms. Choudhary told the media that the academy’s Deputy Director, Saurabh Jain, had promised her a job and had sought a bribe of Rs. 20 lakh. She claimed that she paid him Rs. 5 lakh and was staying on the campus to get the job. Mr. Jain refuted the allegations.
