The Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) here will soon have an eye bank and a separate ward for Thalassemia patients, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said here on Friday.
“The need for having an eye bank has been felt for long to cater to the requirements of the people with visual impairement,” Mr. Dhumal said at a blood donation camp organised by Thalassemia patients here.
Efforts were afoot to set up a bank on priority basis and the codal formalities for the same are in the process to be completed, he said.
The CM asked the people to donate their eyes for the noble cause which could help many people to get visibility.
Dhumal said that the thalassemic patients’ demand for providing them a separate ward would soon be fulfilled as IGMC authorities had geared up its machinery for the creation of a separate ward for them.
State Health Minister Rajeev Bindal highlighted the role of NGOs in strengthening health services in the state.
