Explosives found on empty rake, defused

A bagful of explosives was detected inside an empty rake of a train by maintenance workers at the siding of the Howrah station near here on Tuesday.

A press statement issued by the Eastern Railway authorities stated that , Loknath Hela and Swapan Choudhury, detected the bag containing a timer, wire and explosives inside the toilet of an empty rake of the Joynagar Passenger and immediately informed the railway authorities.

“The railway authorities informed the Railway Protection Force and the Government Railway Police in turn who cordoned off the area. Finally the bomb disposal squad defused the explosives,” the statement said .

Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced cash award for the two workers for their alertness, it added.
