Former Bangladesh external affairs minister Dr Dipu Moni will attend ‘Tripura Conclave’ a regional policy dialogue, slated for July 9 in Agartala. A host of senior diplomats and dignitaries would join the conclave aimed at understanding how Tripura can pull geo-politics of Asia and lead to markets up to China.
Organisers on Friday said Dr Moni would make the key note address with special reference to Bangladesh as it sees this north-eastern state as a strategic corridor to widen business and commerce as well as travel beyond territorial boundaries. Alok Sen, who was India’s Ambassador in Myanmar, Cambodia and Turkey will deliver speech at the first such conclave in the state.
Expert on China, Jabin Jacob and Sudeep Chakrabarti, noted author who penned famous book Highway 39 have been invited to speak at the programme. Chief Secretary S.K. Panda would commence the dialogue with his inaugural speech.
It is expected Dr Dipu Moni would give an outline on Bangladesh’s latest stance on issues like granting land and water transit facilities for India’s north-eastern states to open a huge opportunity for trade and travel. She earlier visited Tripura twice – first in November 2010 as foreign minister and in January 2012 with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina when the latter was conferred honorary Ph.D by Tripura Central University.
During her visit, she will call on Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and a few other leaders. Mr Sarkar will not be attending the Tripura Conclave owing to his preoccupations.
