Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday said e-smart cards would tackle complaints of rampant corruption and other irregularities in the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA).
After inaugurating the call centres under the ‘E-Shakti’ scheme here, Mr. Kumar said the ‘E-shakti’ smart cards facilitated the beneficiaries to draw wages directly without the involvement of any middlemen.
The scheme, he said, was launched in February at Paliganj in Patna as a pilot project and its network was being expanded in the State.
In Patna, a total of 8.76 lakh labourers from rural areas have been enrolled under the scheme and out of which, the e-smart cards were made available to 3000 such labourers, Mr. Kumar said.
