A Bhubaneswar-based software development company was again accused of duping engineering graduates who mainly hailed from neighbouring West Bengal.
According to a complaint lodged in local police station, these engineering graduates alleged that they had never been paid by the company.
The company had given appointment letters to these students after conducting campus recruitment drive on campus of Calcutta Institute of Technology and Kolaghat Engineering College under West Bengal University of Technology.
“On the basis of the offer letter issued by company on different dates, we separately deposited a sum of Rs. 1.5 lakh and Rs. 80,000 respectively towards the security deposits in forms of cheque and demand draft. The amount was duly received by the company,” one Dhiraj Kumar Pal.
“The company had promised us to pay Rs. 7,500 per month after completion of first phase of training. But unfortunately none of us has received any amount till date. It is more painful to note that without giving any notice or assigning any reason the company has stopped training and closed the main gate,” he said.
When more than 50 employees of the company approached local police, one Debi Prasad Jena, who was said to be managing director of the company, came for a compromise and gave undertakings that he would pay two months of salary before March 19. However, Mr. Jena reportedly absconded from the date of compromise.
Efforts in vain
Now these engineering graduates from West Bengal have been running from pillar to post requesting everybody in Orissa government to intervene in the matter.
But so far all their efforts have gone in vain. Students alleged that local police was not showing any seriousness in nabbing the culprit.
This was not the first time when report of cheating by software companies came to the light.
During past five years, more than three incidents of such duping had created an atmosphere of mistrust among the people.
