A sub-engineer at the Block Development Office in Sehore was shot at by unidentified men on a motorcycle in front of the Superintendent of Police’s office in Sehore, 37 km west of Bhopal, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
The victim, Priyanka Baghel, was walking to work from the railway station accompanied by two female colleagues when she was fired upon. All three women were posted at the Block Development Office.
The woman is out of danger and is recovering at a hospital here.
Sehore SP R.S. Sikarwar told The Hindu that police were probing all possible angles, including investigating possible personal or professional enmities any of the three women may have had. “The women saw the face of the shooter. The victim’s father is a traffic police inspector in Bhopal, so we are asking him whether he has any suspicions. The weapon used was most probably a country-made pistol. She was shot in the back and the bullet went through her ribs and exited from the front,” he said.
The women commuted daily by train from Bhopal.
