Encephalitis scare: Union Minister to visit Gorakhpur

In view of the rising encephalitis cases in eastern Uttar Pradesh, Union Health Minister Minister J. P. Nadda would be visiting Gorakhpur on September 23.

BJP MP from Gorakhpur Yogi Adityanath, confirming the information on Monday said that Mr Nadda would be on a day’s visit on September 23.

He said that the number of people dying due to encephalitis was increasing day by day and other infectious diseases were also spreading in the division.

Death toll goes

up to 239

According to Additional Health Director’s office, 36 new encephalitis patients were admitted in BRD Medical College and other hospitals in Gorakhpur division on Monday.

With this, the total number of patients has reached 1,446, while the toll has gone up to 239 with six more deaths, it said.

The deceased include two from Deoria, one from Siddharthnagar and three from Bihar. - PTI
