Encephalitis claims seven lives in UP

Seven persons have died due to encephalitis at the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur, taking the death toll due to the disease this year to 160.

While five of the victims were from Gorakhpur, one was from Maharajganj and another from adjoining Bihar, health officials said on Thursday.

Thirteen persons suffering from encephalitis have been admitted to the hospital since Wednesday.

The disease is caused by mosquito bite and contaminated water.
