An elephant attacked a vehicle and seriously injured four members, three tourists and the driver, in Assam’s world-famed Kaziranga National Park Monday evening, park officials said.

The three tourists, a couple and a child hailing from Kolkata, had entered the Kohora range of the park for the evening Jeep Safari when they spotted the elephant.

One of the tourists began taking photographs of the elephant and did not heed the mahout’s instruction not to do so.

The elephant, called Rudra, suddenly attacked the vehicle which hit a tree and overturned, seriously injuring all four of them and severely damaging the vehicle.

The injured have been admitted to Bokakhat Civil Hospital and their condition was stated to be critical.

Senior park officials have rushed to the spot and the elephant has been brought under control, sources added.
