The Pune District and Sessions court on Wednesday remanded radical Hindutva leader Milind Ekbote, accused of orchestrating the Bhima-Koregaon riots of January 1, in 14-day judicial custody.

Mr. Ekbote was produced in the court after his police custody expired on Wednesday.

The court also sent Sanjay Waghmare, who recently attempted an ink attack on Mr. Ekbote, to police custody till March 22, along with two other persons.

Mr. Waghmare, who has a number of cases against him, heads a local outfit. On Monday, when Mr. Ekbote was being brought to court, Mr. Waghmare tried to spray ink on his face.

An FIR lodged at the Shivajinagar police station states that Mr. Waghmare, pretending to be a lawyer, attempted to assault Mr. Ekbote but was stopped by the police.
