An eight-year-old boy was killed and his brother injured when a grenade accidently exploded as they were collecting scrap in a firing range at Mendhar in this district on Saturday.

Iftkar Ahmed, 8, died on the spot, while Mukhtiyar Ahmed, 10, sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the sub-district hospital, the police said.

Demonstration

Meanwhile, hundreds of people staged a demonstration for six hours since the morning, blocking traffic in the town, to condemn the alleged killing of a villager by the Army, the police said.

The body of Nazir Hussain was recovered by the police in the morning in the Suian forests.

The protesters dispersed after the police told them that an inquest under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code was ordered.

An Army spokesman said in Jammu that an internal investigation revealed that there was no involvement of soldiers in the death.
