Tragedy struck two families on Saturday when eight persons, including children, were killed when two houses were buried due to a landslip at Harnai in Maharashtra, 180 km from here, in the early hours.

Heavy rains triggered the landslip at around 2 a.m.

The deceased were identified as Pravin Pawar (35), his wife Sunita Pawar (30), their children Tanvi (7) and Prathamesh (8), Santosh Gopal Ghag (35), his mother Saraswati Gopal Ghag (70), his wife Sanjeevani Santosh Ghag (30) and his sister Lalita Gopal Ghag (37).

Bodies recovered

All the bodies have been recovered, the authorities said.

The houses of Pravin Pawar and Santosh Ghag were situated at the foot of the hills at Harnai.

Due to heavy rains, a big portion of the hill crashed down upon the two houses, where the inmates were asleep, the authorities said.
